OVERVIEW

The YMCA strives to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. We emphasize teamwork, good sportsmanship, self esteem and a respect for one another. YMCA Youth Sports leagues are different from competitive club leagues in that everyone receives equal practice and play time. We’ve also modified each sport to make it safer and more enjoyable to play. Through our sports programs, we grow all participants regardless of ability, gender, race, or religious creed. We encourage parents and coaches to support our kids with positive reinforcement and believe competition is a positive process when the pursuit of victory is kept in the right perspective.

The YMCA Flag Football Program is designed to meet the needs of each player at their current level of play and provide opportunities to increase their individual skills. The goal is that these opportunities lead to an overall enjoyment of the game for years to come. Through participation in practices and games, players learn sportsmanship, how to work as a team and also build quality relationships with players and coaches in the program. The YMCA Flag Football Program is for boys and girls 5 to 12 years of age, who wish to play recreational level flag football. Teams are coached by volunteer parent coaches. They will have official practices before the season begins and play an 8 game schedule. Each player receives a participation trophy/medal at the end of the season.

PRACTICE & GAMES

YMCA flag football teams practice once a week for one hour and will play games on Saturdays. In the event that weather causes a game to be cancelled, games will be made up during the week later in the season.

PLAYER EQUIPMENT

Each player will need to bring a football and mouthpiece to each practice. No child will be allowed to practice or play without a mouthpiece. Players can wear any type of athletic shoes or cleats with no metal spikes. For a list of ball sizes for each age group please look below.
