FAQs

How are the coaches picked?

All of our fantastic coaches are volunteers! Some are YMCA staff members, others are parents coaching their children, and many are local community members, family members, or college students who share our Y values.

Your child’s safety is our top priority. That’s why every coach is required to complete both concussion awareness and child abuse prevention training before the season begins.

We’re incredibly grateful for their time, energy, and commitment to making youth sports a safe and positive experience for all.

Can I stay and watch practice?

Absolutely! Our teams are always looking for Assistant Coaches—no experience needed, just a positive attitude and willingness to help. Not ready to coach? Parents can also volunteer to create a snack schedule or serve as a backup if the coach needs to miss a practice or game.

Volunteering is a great way to support your child and our Y community!

Helpful Tips

1. Save Your Coach’s Contact Info
Keep their number or email handy in case of last-minute updates or emergencies.

2. Sign Up for Alerts
Click “Alert Signup” at the top of this webpage. This is how we communicate weather-related cancellations or illness-related changes.

3. Come Prepared
Ensure your athlete has all the necessary equipment and is dressed appropriately for the activity.

4. Be On Time
Arriving on time shows respect for your coach and teammates. Please also be prompt for pick-up. If you’re running late, notify your coach by call or text.

5. Make it FUN!
The Y emphasizes fair play, positive competition, and family involvement.

  • We don’t keep score—every child is a winner.

  • Everyone plays, so cheer loudly for all players on the field!
