FAQS

How can I volunteer to coach?

Our program is heavily dependent on help and support from volunteer coaches. All coaches are background checked and complete various other trainings before the season begins. Visit Coaches Corner.  After completing that, please get in touch with your local Sports Director to share your interest, and they can provide more information.

How often is practice?

All teams will spend 1-2 hours a week in practice and games.

Can I stay and watch practice?

Family support is an important part of an athlete’s development.  We ask parents to stay on-site during practice and games and encourage them to stay to watch their athletes.

What equipment will my child need?

  • Basketball – Tennis shoes & water bottle
  • Soccer – Water bottle, shin guards, & cleats (optional, may not be worn inside)
  • Track and Cross Country– Tennis shoes, water bottle, & running spikes (optional)
  • Baseball – Fielding glove & water bottle. A helmet, batting gloves, and bat are optional.

When & where are the games played?

Your sports director will reach out to you regarding your athlete’s game schedule before the start of the season.

HELPFUL TIPS

Here are some helpful tips to ensure you have a great season!

  1. Double-check your email on your registration to make sure you are receiving communication, and be on the lookout for your welcome email.
  2. Sign up for Weather and Emergency Text Alerts in Y Game Time– We want to get you the correct information at the right time. This is a great resource to help in that communication.
  3. Make sure your athlete has the equipment they need.
  4. Be on time – We want to honor your time and effort by providing the best quality sports experience possible. We need your help, though. By showing up on time, ready to play, for practices and games makes a world of difference.
  5. Make it FUN!! We encourage fair play, positive competition, and family involvement at the Y. Every child gets to play, so make sure to cheer loud!! (For both teams!)
  6. Stay Healthy – eat well, get lots of rest, and listen to your athlete. If a child is not feeling well, they should rest.

We encourage all parents to familiarize themselves with the CDC Heads Up concussion information to help them know what to do if they think their athlete has a concussion.
