YMCA Youth Basketball Rules – Girls 11-13 (Rules will be updated soon to match Girls CIF rules with a few exceptions)
The first three weeks will feature pre-season games, followed by three weeks of league games. The season will wrap up with two weeks of playoff games.
General:
- I have updated the playing time for the following divisions: Boys 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and Girls 8-10, 11-13.
- Game Format:
- Games will consist of two 20-minute halves with a running clock.
- The clock will stop for all timeouts and injuries.
- In the last two minutes of the second half, a stop-clock will be used if the point margin is less than 10.
- Halftime:
- There will be a 3-minute halftime break.
- Overtime:
- If the score is tied at the end of regulation, a 2-minute overtime period will be played.
- Each team will be granted one timeout during the overtime period.
- A stop-clock will be used for dead balls and free throws.
- If the score remains tied after the overtime period, the game will end in a tie.
- Timeouts:
- Each team is allowed one 1-minute timeout per half. Timeouts do not carry over.
- Timeouts can be called by a coach or a player on the court when their team has clear possession of the ball or during a dead ball.
- Substitutions:
- Substitutions will occur every five minutes. The clock will continue running, so players should be ready to check in at the scorer’s table promptly.
- Free substitution is not permitted.
- Playing Time Requirements:
- Each player must play a minimum of 20 minutes per game and sit for at least 5 minutes.
- No player is allowed to play the entire game unless exceptions apply, such as injuries, a team having only five players, or a player fouling out before meeting their minimum playing time.
- Playing time will be recorded at the scorer’s table during all games.
The purpose of the 20-minute halves is to increase actual playing time for the older divisions.
- Team fouls shall be recorded, the 7th, 8th, and 9th team foul will result in 1 and 1 free throws. The 10th+ team foul will result in 2 free throw shots.
- Individual fouls shall be recorded, and a player will foul out on their 6th personal foul.
- Each team is required to have one volunteer report to the scorer’s table 5 minutes prior to game time to assist in scorekeeping or timing.
- Only one coach standing on sideline and must stay on their designated half of the court.
- Baskets will be at 10’ and an intermediate size ball will be used (28.5)
Offense:
- The offensive team shall bring the ball into the front court within 10 seconds.
- There will be 3-second lane violations.
- Backcourt violations will be enforced when using the large courts (over and back).
- All players may enter the key once the ball has left the shooter’s hands. Only the shooter must wait for the ball to make contact with the rim. If no contact is made, the play is dead, and ball turned over to the opposing team.
- All violations will result in loss of possession.
Defense:
- Full court press is permitted in the second half only. In the second half, if a team is up by 10 points or more, they must play defense after the halfcourt line.
